Tahanan Furniture aims to craft consciousness in the Filipino home with bespoke furniture and curated home goods made by different Filipino artisan communities. Our bespoke furniture is made and designed with intention. They are inspired by our own culture and traditional craftsmanship, with the use of natural materials and by way of sustainable practices.

Aside from this, we curate various pieces from makers all over the country and highlight the products of local indigenous groups.

Rattan Weavers from Cebu

Our products are made in Cebu. Handmade and truly a proud Filipino product. Tahanan sourced the baskets in an exporter in Cebu. Operations for exportation stopped during this pandemic and it helped the community’s livelihood.

“Our products are actually all for export. It is made by weaving or handmade. The original design is made out of weaving and binding. Our team depends on the bulk or quantity of the order. Most of the weavers reside at mountain provinces. Weaving is there primary source of livelihood in the mountain provinces. Almost every single one in their family knows how to weave. We source rattan by either buying them from the local markets or directly get them from uproot trees. The raw material that involves here is rattan. Our products means of sustenance for everyone of us.

For care guides of our products since these are products for export ,these are sturdy and of high quality.The products are low maintenance so no need to worry about handling with so much care.”

Nito Weavers from the Mangyan Tribe

Nito weaving is a skill honed by the Iraya-Mangyans of Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro who lives on the foot of Mount Malasimbo. They use raw materials like nito grass and thick, dried forest vines are woven in a circular motion that results to an intricate pattern uniquely by the tribe.

Rattan Mirror Makers from Nueva Ecija

Sinimulan na siya ng tatay ko 35 years ago. Dami namin dito pinag daanan kasi nauso yung rattan na synthetic na may metal. Sobrang pasalamat namin nauso ulit itong rattan kasi hindi na kami nag hirap. Ngayon naman tinutulungan namin mga crafters na kahit galing manila kinukuha namin. Kahit wala kaming orders nagpapagawa kami para maibenta kasi ayaw namin mag ayaw sa tao. Ngayon lahat sila nandito at marami kami nagiging customers na kahit sa ibang bansa nag iinquire pa. Sobrang pasalamat namin sa mga customers.”

The flea market collaborates with customers of Tahanan to help their second hand Furniture find a new home.
